Our Approach
CPW developed the first new high school in Staffordshire for nearly 50 years. The all-new John Taylor Free School accommodates 1440 pupils, a sixth form, and a state-of-the-art gym with changing facilities.
It as a key part of a masterplan for greenfield development in the area, including a new housing estate.
We were keen to develop an engaging learning environment with best-in-class efficiency standards.
A mixed mode ventilation system optimises efficiency across the seasons, with automatic controls that measure CO2 levels and increase the ventilation if these are too high, to ensure a constant flow of fresh air
We used powerful daylight modelling and weather patterns to incorporate intelligent lighting controls - so artificial light is only triggered when there is insufficient natural light.
The project uses the freely available resources of fresh air and daylight, coupled with sophisticated controls, to create a school with low carbon emissions and daily running costs - and students and staff can focus in a positive learning environment.
